Sue has been a physiotherapist for 30 years, training in Bradford and later working in NE London as a clinician in both the NHS and private sector. Sue currently works for the profession’s membership organisation of 58,000 Chartered Physiotherapists, Students and Support Workers in the UK. Sue’s portfolio covers a wide range of interests including primary care, community rehabilitation, first contact practitioner roles, leadership and improvement, as well as professional issues such as scope of practice, and the development and utilisation of new and emerging roles in practice. Sue’s MSc in Healthcare Leadership developed her interest in team working and the impact of trust within teams and organisations. Sue’s work contributed to the development of the Society’s first Leadership Development Programme, which, after two years has just opened out to Allied Health Professions in the UK. The devolution of healthcare leadership and management to regional and local structures has provided a challenge to the Society, of how it supports the profession in this decentralised infrastructure. Sue is leading work to establish new ways of working, enhancing policy influencing and service improvement activity locally, by changing how her team work to consider UK-wide issues.
