Embracing health at every size - key insights for the Fitness industry

Thursday 13th June 10:00 - 10:45

Debate

Tanya Hall, UK Tender & Partners Manager, E-Gym continues her consideration of the fitness industry’s perspective on obesity, following on from her incisive 2023 session on body image and the way the fitness industry views bigger bodies. She is joined by Sarah Le Brocq, founder of All About Obesity, who has commissioned and reviewed extensive research about obesity and has lived experience of exercising – and becoming extremely fit – in a bigger body. Dr Giles Yeo, Scientific Director of Genomics and Transcriptomics Core, University of Cambridge, adds his perspective and contends that obesity is not a choice but a genetic destiny.

They’ll consider:

  • Whether it’s true that the fitness industry welcomes all shapes and sizes – or is it essentially fitness for the fit?
  • Lived experiences of obesity and fitness, what fitness professionals need to know about obesity and living in a bigger body and why they shouldn't ignore the 3 in 4 people living with obesity in the UK.
  • What the potential role of the fitness sector is in weight loss management and injections: what does it say about the real meaning of being healthy and the true driver for fitness if the conversation is always about weight?
