Professor Rosie Meek

Professor of Criminological Psychology, School of Law

Royal Holloway University of London
Rosie Meek is a professor of psychology and criminology in the School of Law at Royal Holloway University of London, a department that she founded and led from 2013. Her research is broadly focused on the development and evaluation of prison-based initiatives, with a particular focus on education, health and wellbeing. Professor Meek's most recent work has focused on physical activity in prisons: as well as her 2014 book ‘Sport in Prison’ (Routledge) and numerous journal articles, she is responsible for the 2018 independent review of sport and physical activity in prisons (“A Sporting Chance”), which culminated in 12 recommendations which the Ministry of Justice are acting on in implementing youth and adult justice reforms. Here she drew attention to the positive role that sport and physical activity can play in reducing violence and preventing offending, as well as the psychological and physical health benefits of promoting physical activity for those who live and work in our prisons.Rosie enjoys watching (and very occasionally playing) rugby, and is a certified yoga teacher.
