Martyn started his career teaching Physical Education. During this period he held a number of coaching positions at English professional football clubs. In 1998 Wimbledon FC asked him to move from his youth team coaching role to become the Head of Education and Welfare, three years later he was appointed Academy Director of the their highly rated Academy. In 2009 Martyn joined the Premier League as Head of Education and Welfare. Since then he has played a pivotal role in the development of the new Elite Player Performance Plan which set out the blueprint for a new Youth Development system in English Professional Football and which promotes the holistic development of young players.Martyn’s experience in both the education and football worlds has seen him gain a reputation as a leading expert in the education of young elite footballers.
