The role of the diaphragm and pelvic floor in musculoskeletal conditions

Thursday 18th June 11:15 - 11:55

The presentation will outline the critical roles that the diaphragm and pelvic floor have on the rest of the body. It will go in-depth into how the diaphragm and pelvic floor reacts to the respiratory system which in turn affects the musculoskeletal system. There will be applied examples for recurrent hamstring tears, groin and hip pain and complex low back pain patients. You will understand the basic mechanics of the diaphragm and pelvic floor and their interaction with the respiratory system and learn how the diaphragm and pelvic floor impact the respiratory system on the ribcage, spine and pelvis. You will have clarity in how to test clinically if the diaphragm and pelvic floor are contributing to the clinical picture and implement a simple strategy to desensitise and mobilise the pelvic floor and diaphragm if required.
