Understanding the implications of First Contact Practitioners

Wednesday 8th May 13:55 - 14:35

Patients presenting with MSK problems make up to 1 in 5 primary care consultations and 10% of GP referrals. Enabling people to access an MSK first contact practitioner allows quicker access to expert assessment diagnosis and effective self management strategies, reduces workload and associated costs for GPs, and prevents inappropriate referrals to secondary care. This session will explore the impact and opportunities, the clinical considerations and the practical steps necessary to implement FCP for patients with MSK conditions into primary care – examining the key principles that will deliver the best benefits.
