Prescribing movement for Pregnancy

Pregnancy provides an exciting opportunity for lifestyle change with regular health care professional contact. Physical activity provides a range of benefits from reducing the risk of gestational diabetes to improving cardiovascular fitness. The 2017 Chief Medical Officers infographic and FAQ document has started to provided clarity to health care professionals. Yet, much further work is required to disseminate and spread the word amongst this population. Many myths remain about exercising during pregnancy, with a surprising number of people still feeling the need to wag a disapproving finger at mothers-to-be who lace up their trainers and get active.
This session will focus on two areas. Firstly, on the latest evidence related to the common question ‘should women run in pregnancy’ and secondly discusses the lessons learnt from the maternity stream of the PHE Physical Activity Feasibility Pilot aiming to disseminate and integrate physical activity into secondary care services.
