Activating the nation

Wednesday 17th June 10:35 - 11:20

We are at an exciting juncture for physical activity in England, five years on from a revolution in our approach to physical activity led by PHE’s national physical activity framework ‘Everybody Active Every Day’, DCMS’ Sport Strategy and Sport England’s ‘Towards an Active Nation’ strategy. Indications suggest that England is bucking the downward trend of other high-income countries in seeing population physical activity levels potentially stabilise or even increase.

The sector has been amongst the leaders of this revolution in the nation’s approach to physical activity, with greater focus on the least active and the societal benefits of physical activity. This has included greater collaboration between the physical activity and health sectors.

Whilst Government looks at the physical activity agenda across departments, Sport England consult on their new five year strategy and PHE start to share findings of their implementation review after five years of Everybody Active Every Day, it provides an opportunity for the sector to shape the next phase in this national journey.
