Public leisure services for the future

Thursday 9th May 16:00 - 16:30

Councils have lost 60% of their central government funding since 2010 – at the same time demand for priorities such as social care, air quality, tackling homelessness continues to grow. Councils continue to invest significantly in sport and physical activity – but how can this investment best tackle multiple inter connected priorities; how can physical activity act as an anchor and provide wider solutions; where can councils be innovative and work with new partners to help communities to be active; what is the role of strong leadership and cross-council approaches; and what is the correlation between behaviours and people – this session aims to stimulate thinking on the strategic issues effecting public physical activity and sport services.
