Dan worked in education for 12 years, teaching in primary, secondary and special schools in Southampton, Newcastle and Coventry. After a brief spell leading a School Sports Partnership in London he was appointed to a local authority Curriculum Consultant role for PE and Sport.
As the Director of Development at the Yorkshire Sport Foundation, Dan leads the Children and Young People, Workforce, Clubs, NGB and Active Design teams, as well as looking for new opportunities for funding and further development of the organisation, including its continuous improvement strategy.
In his role as Vice Chair of the Active Partnership national Children and Young People group, Dan has worked with government departments to develop thinking around the PE and Sport Premium and the PE, Sport and Activity Action Plan. He also sits on the All Party Parliamentary Group for a Fit and Healthy Childhood, having contributed to several influential reports.
Dan has been instrumental in bringing together leaders from different sectors to develop the influential Creating Active Schools (CAS) Framework, which emphasises the importance of putting physical activity at the heart of school strategy. CAS is now changing behaviours in local authorities, multi academy trusts and hundreds of schools across England so that more children reap the benefits of being more active throughout the school day.
Outside of his work for YSF, Dan is a proud father of two, Chair of Governors at a large Academy in North Yorkshire, a Trustee for the communities’ charity Groundwork and occasional triathlete.
