Arun is widely recognised as a leading authority on equality, diversity and inclusion. Arun's specialism is creating models that both work bottom-up and top down in sport to diversify sport at all levels. Examples include, using sport to build more integrated communities, through its community cohesion programmes but also reflectively drawing on top-down approaches that allows for pioneering initiatives such as the Race Representation Index that focuses on equality workforce data and the Sporting Equals Charter that works to tackle the culture within sport organisations.
Having the flexibility to influence both at a grassroot to more challenging and changing decision making bodies in sport, allow Arun to develop innovative initiatives, for Sporting Equals to drive maximum impact in terms of race equality in sport and physical activity with many of our projects and campaigns being heralded as powerful positive forces of change within the sports sector.
Arun has worked in equality and inclusion for over twenty years. After starting his career as a youth worker and then BBC Radio producer, Arun followed his passion for social change and completed an MA in Promoting Equality and Managing Diversity. Roles since have included Head of Equality and Diversity at a local authority, Chief Executive of a Race Equality organisation and now Chief Executive of the charity Sporting Equals.
Arun has transformed Sporting Equals to become the 'go to' organisation for inclusion of ethnically diverse communities in sport. Arun is the founder of the British Ethnic Diversity Sports Awards and created the LeaderBoard programme to diversify the boardrooms of sport. Arun has pioneered bringing the faith sector and sport sector together at a community level – taking sport directly into faith centres.
Arun's wider commitments include sitting on the Board of the Breaking Boundaries programme, Director of London Marathon Events Ltd. a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, lead member for sport for the World Entrepreneurship Forum and a Mentor for the European Social Innovation Academy.
