IQL UK is the awarding body of The Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK), the drowning prevention charity.
RLSS UK is the UK’s leading provider of training and education in lifesaving, lifeguarding, water safety and life support skills.
Through IQL UK, there are more than 90,000 RLSS UK Pool Lifeguards in the UK trained in the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ). IQL UK also offers the National Pool Management Qualification and First Aid at Work qualifications as part of its portfolio.
Around 400 people needlessly die from drowning in the UK every year and thousands more suffer injury, some life-changing, through near-drowning experiences. Putting these figures into context one person dies every 20 hours in the UK and drowning is the leading cause of accidental death of children in the UK.
Our core purpose is to prevent drowning and we want to deliver a year-on-year reduction in the rate of British and Irish citizens drowning through the identification of seven challenging ambitions which we intend to focus our attention on, having the maximum impact possible on these facets of the work we undertake.
