The National Institute of Dance Medicine and Science (NIDMS) is a partnership of organisations working in dance, academia and health, both private and NHS. The partners work together to combine expertise in order to establish affordable, accessible, dance specialist healthcare, progress research in dance medicine and science, and provide education to dance companies and schools internationally. Through this combined expertise NIDMS is able to help the wider dance community by reducing the risk of injury for dancers in training and professional dancers, ensuring the longevity of these aesthetic athletes.
NIDMS provides NHS dance injury clinics in London, Birmingham and Bath including the first dance specialist RED-S clinic at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. Partners also provide dance specialist musculoskeletal and fitness screenings as part of One Dance UK’s Performance Optimisation Package.
The first MSc and MFA Dance Science are offered via academic partners Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and University of Wolverhampton, alongside a newly launched BSc Dance Science. Through One Dance UK’s Healthier Dancer Programme, NIDMS also provides educational talks for dance schools and companies nationally and internationally, alongside dance medicine and science information sheets and conferences.
NIDMS founding partners; One Dance UK (previously Dance UK), University of Wolverhampton, University of Birmingham, Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, Birmingham Royal Ballet and The Royal Ballet (joined in 2017).
