Hilary Farmiloe is Manager of the InstructAbility programme at Aspire. She joined the spinal injury charity in 2011, after working as a development manager for the government’s School Sport Partnership scheme.
Under her leadership InstructAbility has developed into a multi-award winning national programme. As well as working with project partners YMCAfit, Hilary has established links with other training providers and national governing bodies of sport such as Clubbercise, SOSA and England Athletics. She collaborates with EFDS’s Inclusive Fitness Initiative and has secured agreements with many of the major leisure management companies in England, to provide work placements and employment for disabled fitness instructors. Hilary is a Chartered Member of CIMSPA and works to influence inclusive policy and practices within the leisure sector and sits on several groups including the Disability Action Alliance and GLL Access & Inclusion Forum. She has been active in promoting inclusion at industry events by creating a platform for disabled people to demonstrate the unique skills they can bring to the sector workforce. Currently, Hilary is working with Birmingham University on a commissioned research project to provide industry guidelines on training and employing disabled people in the fitness sector.
